MyEssayGenie Educational Consultants (“MyEssayGenie”, “MEG”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates myessaygenie.com.
This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you visit our website, contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, participate in our online community or use our educational consultancy and application-support services.
MEG is responsible for the personal information it collects and uses for these activities. Universities and other organisations that receive information for their own purposes have their own responsibilities and privacy notices.
The information we handle depends on your interaction with us and the services you request. It may include:
We receive information directly from you and through your use of our website and emails. During an application, we may also receive relevant updates from the institutions and organisations involved.
Please send only information relevant to the assistance you need. You do not need to submit application documents with a general enquiry. If information necessary for a requested service is missing, we may be unable to progress that service.
We use personal information to:
The legal basis depends on the activity. This may include taking steps at your request before entering an agreement, performing a service agreement, complying with a legal obligation, or obtaining your consent.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, such as protecting our systems or administering our services, those interests must be balanced against your rights and interests. Making an enquiry does not constitute consent to every possible use of your information.
We do not use automated scoring or profiling to make decisions about students that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
We handle enquiries and student documents through company email, WhatsApp, Google Drive, Excel or Google Sheets, and university or application platforms. Website form submissions may also be retained in website submission records and notification emails.
Our website is hosted through Hostinger. We use Google Workspace for company email and website email delivery, and Google services for document storage and website analytics.
Newsletter subscriptions are managed through the Newsletter plugin installed on our WordPress website. Subscriber records are stored in our website database. Hosting and email-delivery providers process relevant information to store these records and deliver emails.
Access to personal information is limited according to staff responsibilities. Relevant personnel may include the CEO, COO, student recruitment consultants, lead-screening staff or mediators, and IT support.
Our safeguards include password protection for accounts and devices, restricted Google Drive permissions, staff access restrictions and confidentiality agreements. No electronic system or method of transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
We share relevant information with universities, recruitment aggregators, application platforms, visa application centres and immigration-related service providers where needed to support your requested services.
This may involve processing supporting documents, facilitating applications, managing admissions and enrolment, and assisting with visa-related processes. Before application-related sharing, we explain why the information is needed and how it relates to your application.
Hosting, email, storage, communication and technical service providers also process information when supplying services to us. We may disclose information where required by law or a valid legal process.
We do not sell personal information or share contact lists for other organisations’ independent marketing.
Please read the privacy notices of universities, application platforms and other organisations you deal with directly.
Your information may be stored, accessed or processed outside Nigeria through our service providers and the organisations involved in your application.
Depending on the services and destinations involved, recipients may be located in the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States or other countries. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in Nigeria.
Contact us at hello@myessaygenie.com if you need information about the recipients or overseas processing associated with your application, including the applicable transfer arrangements.
Completed student application records are currently retained indefinitely unless manually deleted. Enquiry records do not have a fixed automatic deletion period.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not automatically delete your subscriber record or information relating to an application or service.
You may request deletion by emailing hello@myessaygenie.com. We consider requests in accordance with applicable law and any legitimate legal or record-keeping requirements. Where information must be retained for those purposes, we will explain the relevant limitation.
If you enquire about a service, we may contact you about that enquiry or the assistance you requested. Making an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to our newsletter.
When you subscribe through our website, we use your email address to send study-abroad guides, educational updates, application information and relevant service offers. Our signup process sends a confirmation email asking you to confirm your subscription.
We keep subscription and confirmation records to manage your preferences and maintain evidence of your signup.
Our newsletter system is configured to track email opens and link clicks. Open tracking uses a small image embedded in an email. Click tracking uses tracked links. These interactions can be associated with your subscriber record, and the system stores IP addresses. We use this information to understand engagement and improve our communications.
You can withdraw your newsletter consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in our newsletters or by emailing hello@myessaygenie.com with the subject Marketing Opt-Out. You may also contact us to object to newsletter engagement tracking.
For promotional WhatsApp messages, reply asking us to stop. Making an enquiry is not automatically treated as consent to ongoing promotional messages.
Opting out of marketing does not prevent essential communications about an application or service you have requested.
We may receive enquiries from students under 18 and assist them in exploring educational opportunities. A parent or legal guardian must be involved in counselling and application decisions.
When assisting an under-18 student with an application, we involve their parent or guardian, verify that involvement where necessary, and obtain parental or guardian consent where required by law.
We explain how information will be used and shared and take additional care with identity documents, academic records, financial information and other personal information. We collect and share only information reasonably necessary for the relevant enquiry or application.
